The fire occurred around 5:15 a.m. in the B-1 coach of the 12431 Rajdhani Express near Vikramgarh Alot railway station in the Kota division. The train was travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.

Swift Evacuation Prevents Major Tragedy

According to railway authorities, the affected B-1 coach had around 68 passengers onboard at the time of the incident. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), onboard railway staff, and local railway officials acted quickly to evacuate passengers from the coach within approximately 15 minutes.

As an added safety measure, nearby coaches were also cleared to avoid any risk of the fire spreading further.

Officials from the Kota Railway Division rushed relief and rescue teams to the site immediately after receiving information about the incident. The affected coach was later detached from the train rake, while the overhead electric supply (OHE) was switched off to ensure operational safety during rescue operations.

Railways Confirms No Casualties

In an official statement, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Kota Division confirmed that all passengers were safe.

“All passengers reported safe. No casualties reported,” the statement said.

Railway officials also arranged alternative accommodation for passengers from the affected coach so they could continue their journey toward Kota and Delhi without major disruption.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown as of now. Railway authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the blaze started inside the AC coach.

Officials stated that technical teams would inspect the damaged coach thoroughly to identify any electrical fault, mechanical issue, or other possible causes behind the incident.

Second Train Fire Incident in Recent Days

The Rajdhani Express fire comes just days after another railway fire incident reported on May 15, when two AC coaches of the Hyderabad–Jaipur Special Express caught fire at Nampally Railway Station.

The back-to-back incidents have raised fresh concerns regarding passenger safety and fire preparedness in Indian trains, especially in air-conditioned coaches.

Railway authorities are expected to review safety protocols and conduct detailed inspections following these incidents.
