Tripura Launches 9 Super Specialties at AGMC

In a major boost to the state’s healthcare infrastructure, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday inaugurated nine new super specialties at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), a project worth nearly ₹250 crore. The initiative marks a significant step toward positioning AGMC among the top 10 medical institutions in India.

Major Health Infrastructure Projects Unveiled

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for several new facilities, including:

Critical Care Building (CCB)

Communicable Disease Center (CDC)

20-bed special ward at GBP Hospital

Inter Departmental Call Management System (IDCMS)

Dr. Saha, who also holds the health portfolio, said these developments are part of a long-term strategy to modernize medical services and enhance the confidence and skill levels of doctors across the state.

CM Saha: “Our Aim Is to Bring AGMC into the Top 10”

Addressing the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that Tripura’s healthcare system must grow in quality and reach.

“We must work together to bring AGMC among the top 10 medical colleges in India. This requires dedication from both the government and the medical fraternity,” Dr. Saha said.

He also warned against middlemen or brokers operating in hospitals to influence patients for private referrals, stating that strict measures are being implemented to curb such practices.

Advanced Treatments Now in State Hospitals

Dr. Saha informed that the state has already conducted eight hip replacements and several knee replacement surgeries, showing AGMC’s growing capabilities in advanced medical care.
He added that four more super specialty services will soon be introduced once Central Government allocations are approved.

“Union Health Minister has assured full cooperation in procuring modern medical equipment and tools,” the Chief Minister noted.

Focus on Maternal, Child, and Dental Care

The Chief Minister also announced a Mother and Child Care Building at AGMC and GBP Hospital, funded with ₹192 crore sanctioned by the DoNER Ministry.
Additionally, ₹202 crore has been allocated for upgrading infrastructure at the Tripura Dental College.

Key officials present included Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, ONGC Asset Manager Sanjeev Kumar Janjua, Prof. H.P. Sharma, Dr. Anjan Das, and Dr. Anup Kumar Saha, among other dignitaries.

Tripura’s Healthcare Vision

With these initiatives, Tripura aims to reduce medical referrals outside the state, train skilled healthcare professionals, and establish AGMC as a regional medical hub in the Northeast.
