The message, traced through a digital payment app, has become a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation, according to police officials.

Murder Planned Using Medical Knowledge

According to the Whitefield Division Police, Mahendra, a 32-year-old general surgeon, used his medical expertise to plan and execute the murder. Investigators said he was aware of his wife’s long-standing gastric and metabolic disorders, which made her more vulnerable to certain drugs.

“He knew her medical vulnerabilities and exploited them deliberately. The forensic evidence shows precise use of anaesthetic drugs,” said Whitefield DCP M. Parashuram.

Mahendra allegedly administered a fatal dose of anaesthesia intravenously while visiting his wife under the pretext of medical care. Police said the couple’s marriage, which took place on May 26, 2024, had begun to deteriorate within months due to personal differences and health-related issues.

The Fatal Visit in Marathahalli

At the time of the incident, Kruthika was staying at her father’s home in Marathahalli, Bengaluru. On April 23, 2025, Mahendra visited her and gave her IV injections over two days.

Kruthika fell unconscious and was rushed to a private hospital, where she was declared “brought dead.” Initially, her family accepted that she had died of natural causes linked to her health problems. However, her sister, Dr. Nikitha Reddy, raised suspicions and urged a detailed medical inquiry.

Based on the hospital’s report, the police filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR). Subsequent forensic tests confirmed that Kruthika died from respiratory failure caused by anaesthetic substances.

Digital Trail Exposes Chilling Motive

The case took a grim turn when forensic experts recovered a digital payment message from Mahendra’s phone sent shortly after the crime. The message read: “I killed my wife for you.”

Police have questioned the woman who received the message and recorded her statement. Her identity has been withheld for legal and security reasons. Investigators believe the accused’s relationship with the woman was one of the key motives behind the crime.

Case Under Investigation

Mahendra Reddy remains in judicial custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are now examining the timeline of his communications, prescriptions, and travel records to establish a comprehensive case.

“This case underscores how professional knowledge can be dangerously misused,” a senior officer commented. “We are ensuring that all digital and medical evidence is fully verified.”
