Queen Máxima is currently visiting India in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate (UNSGSA) for Financial Health.

Focus on India’s Digital Transformation

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi shared that the discussions centered on India’s Digital Public Infrastructure-led revolution and its contribution to improving financial access while enhancing the ease of living for citizens.

The Prime Minister described Queen Máxima as a long-standing global advocate for financial inclusion and said India remains committed to sharing its successful digital governance model with partner countries across the world.

He emphasized that India’s digital ecosystem has empowered millions by expanding access to banking, digital payments and government services through technology-driven platforms.

Queen Máxima’s Visit Highlights Financial Inclusion

Queen Máxima arrived in India earlier this week and was welcomed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). According to the MEA, her visit reflects the shared commitment of India and the Netherlands towards advancing financial inclusion and promoting sustainable development through digital innovation.

The ministry noted that India’s experience in leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure has emerged as a global example of inclusive growth and efficient public service delivery.

Interactions with Beneficiaries

During her visit, Queen Máxima interacted with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to understand their experiences with financial services and overall financial health.

She also met beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the Government of India’s flagship financial inclusion programme that has expanded affordable banking access to millions of households.

According to the Office of the UNSGSA, these interactions will help shape her discussions with government officials, financial institutions and private-sector leaders during the remainder of her visit.

Strengthening India-Netherlands Cooperation

The meeting also reinforced the growing partnership between India and the Netherlands in areas of digital innovation and inclusive development.

Prime Minister Modi had previously met Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander during his visit to the Netherlands last month. During that visit, he presented Queen Máxima with handcrafted Meenakari and Kundan earrings, showcasing India’s rich traditional jewellery craftsmanship originating from Rajasthan.

As countries worldwide seek inclusive digital solutions, India’s Digital Public Infrastructure continues to attract global attention for its role in expanding financial access, improving governance and driving sustainable economic development.
