During its stay in Baltimore, INS Sudarshini will take part in maritime engagement programmes and community outreach activities ahead of the Sail250 Maryland celebrations, which commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Successful Transoceanic Expedition Under Lokayan 26

Before arriving in Baltimore, INS Sudarshini represented India at the Sail250 Virginia celebrations in Norfolk from June 19 to 23. The sailing vessel joined tall ships from across the world and participated in the prestigious Parade of Sail and the City Crew Parade.

The Ministry of Defence noted that INS Sudarshini has sailed more than 13,000 nautical miles over the past five months, travelling from Kochi to Norfolk. The remarkable journey showcases India’s centuries-old seafaring traditions and reflects the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the philosophy of “One Earth, One Family, One Future”—by promoting friendship, cooperation and mutual trust across the oceans.

India-US Defence Partnership Continues to Grow

The visit comes as India and the United States continue expanding their defence partnership. Earlier this month, the two countries held the 29th Army-to-Army Staff Talks in Hawaii.

The discussions were co-chaired by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (Strategy), and Lieutenant General Joel Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of the US Army Pacific. Both sides reviewed ongoing military cooperation and explored ways to enhance interoperability, expand professional exchanges, and deepen collaboration in support of shared security interests.

The Indian Army stated that both countries appreciated the growing scope of bilateral military engagements and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-US strategic partnership.

The arrival of INS Sudarshini in Baltimore marks another significant milestone in India’s maritime outreach, highlighting the country’s commitment to stronger international naval cooperation and a stable, secure Indo-Pacific region.
