Vietnam President To Lam arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday on a three-day State Visit to India, marking a significant moment in bilateral relations between the two countries. The visiting leader was welcomed at the airport by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.

Warm Welcome and Strategic Significance
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that President To Lam’s visit is expected to further strengthen the multifaceted ties between India and Vietnam. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations, adding special significance to the visit.
President To Lam, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is on his first visit to India after assuming office last month.
Spiritual Visit to Bodh Gaya
Earlier in the day, President To Lam visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar, where he offered prayers. He was received by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in Gaya, reflecting the cultural and spiritual connection between the two countries.
High-Level Meetings Scheduled
During his visit, President To Lam will receive a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold wide-ranging talks with the Vietnamese leader, covering bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.
President Droupadi Murmu will also meet President To Lam, while several other senior leaders are expected to call on him during his stay in New Delhi.

Focus on Economic and Business Engagement
President To Lam will also travel to Mumbai, where he is scheduled to visit the National Stock Exchange, meet Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and Governor, and attend a business forum.
The engagements are expected to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen trade ties between India and Vietnam.
Strengthening Historical Ties
India and Vietnam share deep historical and civilisational connections, which have evolved into a robust strategic partnership over the years. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was formalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016.
The MEA stated that the current visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral relations and open new avenues of cooperation across sectors.
President To Lam’s visit underscores the growing importance of India-Vietnam ties in the regional and global context.
