Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday said that Durga Puja festivities across the state concluded peacefully this year, marking a celebration of unity, art, and culture. The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the 4th edition of the ‘Mayer Gaman 2025’ carnival procession of Durga idols, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School, Agartala.

‘Mayer Gaman 2025’ Becomes a Cultural Landmark
Highlighting the significance of the event, CM Saha said the ‘Mayer Gaman’ carnival has evolved into one of Tripura’s key annual cultural events. Initially held near City Centre, the procession was later moved to its current venue in consultation with stakeholders to better accommodate participants and spectators.
“The objective is to organize Durga Puja in a disciplined and aesthetic manner. Children from both Jati and Janajati communities have performed together, promoting harmony and showcasing our rich traditions,” Saha said.
Celebrating Unity and Heritage
The Chief Minister recalled that the concept of organized idol immersion processions dates back to Tripura’s princely era. The decision to host the event at Tulsibati was meant to honour that historical legacy while giving a platform to modern artistic expression.
He added, “Durga Puja and Bijoya Dashami are now celebrated globally, transcending religious boundaries. Our government aims to nurture art, culture, and literature by creating an enabling environment for creativity.”
Unprecedented Participation in Tribal Areas
Dr. Saha noted that this year saw record participation from tribal communities, reflecting Tripura’s growing social harmony and cultural inclusiveness. “The enthusiasm witnessed in tribal regions shows how art and celebration can unite people across backgrounds,” he said.
Leaders and Artists Grace the Occasion
Prominent dignitaries including Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, and Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder attended the event alongside ICA officials.

ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee stated that 40 community Puja organizers registered to participate in this year’s grand procession, turning it into a visual spectacle of lights, music, and devotion.

With colourful tableaux, traditional dances, and devotional music, ‘Mayer Gaman 2025’ concluded on a joyous note—solidifying its position as Tripura’s hallmark cultural celebration that bridges generations and communities alike.
