PM Modi Arrives in Seychelles for Historic State Visit:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday for a three-day State Visit, where he received a warm welcome from Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, senior ministers, dignitaries, and members of the Indian diaspora at the airport. The visit marks a significant milestone as PM Modi attends the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles’ National Day as the Guest of Honour while aiming to deepen bilateral ties and maritime cooperation.

PM Modi Receives Grand Welcome

In a special gesture, President Patrick Herminie personally welcomed Prime Minister Modi upon his arrival in Victoria. Members of the Indian community in Seychelles also gathered at the airport to greet the Prime Minister, highlighting the close cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations.

Sharing his appreciation on X, PM Modi said he was grateful for the warm reception and described Seychelles as a “valued maritime partner” and a close friend in the Indian Ocean. He expressed optimism that the visit would further strengthen the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

Focus on Maritime Cooperation

Before departing for Seychelles, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the visit would reinforce India’s commitment to a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Indian Ocean Region (IOR). He described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner under India’s Vision MAHASAGAR initiative.

The Prime Minister noted that 2026 also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, a partnership built on mutual trust, democratic values, respect for diversity, and strong people-to-people connections.

Key Engagements During the Visit

During his June 27–29 visit, PM Modi is scheduled to participate as the Guest of Honour at Seychelles’ National Day celebrations. He will also hold bilateral talks with President Patrick Herminie, who visited India earlier this year.

In a historic first, Prime Minister Modi will address the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. He said the opportunity reflects the strong democratic traditions shared by both nations.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will interact with members of the Indian diaspora, acknowledging their role in strengthening the friendship between India and Seychelles over generations.

Strengthening India-Seychelles Partnership

India and Seychelles share strong cooperation in maritime security, defence, capacity building, development partnerships, healthcare, education, and trade. Both countries have consistently worked together to ensure peace, security, and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean Region.

Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the visit would deepen bilateral relations, expand maritime cooperation, and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Indian Ocean.
