Meghalaya CM Launched ‘Probites’:
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma launched ‘Probites’, a new yoghurt brand developed by student entrepreneurs from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, marking a major step in promoting youth-led innovation and entrepreneurship in the state.

The brand was unveiled at a ceremony held at the Dominic Conference Hall, supported by the St. Anthony’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Incubation (SACCEII) and the PRIME Meghalaya initiative — a flagship program of the state government that mentors aspiring entrepreneurs.

Students Lead the Way in Innovation
At the launch event, CM Sangma commended the students for transforming classroom learning into real-world innovation. ‘Probites’ represents the spirit of Meghalaya’s youth — creative, confident, and committed to building self-reliance through entrepreneurship,” Sangma said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of embedding entrepreneurial education within academic institutions. “When colleges become hubs of innovation, students don’t just look for jobs — they create them,” he remarked, encouraging more colleges to integrate entrepreneurship programs and incubation support for students.
The event also recognised several emerging innovators and student entrepreneurs from across Meghalaya for their contributions to startups, agribusiness, and sustainable local ventures.
PRIME Meghalaya and SACCEII: Nurturing Youth Entrepreneurship
The launch of Probites is part of a growing ecosystem under PRIME Meghalaya and SACCEII, which provide mentorship, incubation, and market access to young entrepreneurs. Both programs aim to empower students with the skills and networks required to scale their ideas into viable enterprises.
Officials from PRIME Meghalaya noted that student startups like Probites reflect the state’s shift toward innovation-driven education and local value creation. The brand is expected to initially cater to the Shillong market, with plans for regional expansion in the future.

Ties with France to Boost Meghalaya’s Piggery Sector
After the launch, Sangma held a meeting with representatives from the French Embassy and Cooperl, a leading French integrated pork producer, to explore scientific pig breeding and piggery value-chain development in Meghalaya.
The discussions focused on establishing collaborations for advanced breeding technologies, skill training, and market linkages for local farmers. “The partnership with Cooperl could help enhance productivity and improve livelihoods in Meghalaya’s piggery sector,” the Chief Minister said.
A Vision for Self-Reliant Meghalaya
Through initiatives like Probites and collaborations in agriculture and livestock, the Meghalaya government aims to strengthen its vision of a self-sustaining, innovation-led economy.
“Empowering students and farmers through knowledge, technology, and entrepreneurship is central to our growth strategy,” Sangma affirmed.
