The historic MBB College Lake site in Agartala has undergone a stunning transformation into a vibrant open space that beautifully blends natural charm with modern amenities, offering citizens a refreshing recreational destination in the heart of the city.
The MBB College Lake Revitalization Project, implemented under the Agartala Smart City Mission with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), was inaugurated on Friday by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
A New Jewel in Agartala’s Urban Landscape
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Saha said the rejuvenated lake site will add a “new feather to the cap of Tripura’s tourism,” symbolizing the government’s dedication to creating a cleaner, greener, and smarter Agartala.
He emphasized that the project aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transform Indian cities under the Smart City Mission. “Agartala is witnessing rapid transformation through modern projects such as the proposed Ring Road, new flyover, Unity Mall, Satellite Township Project, and a heritage five-star hotel,” Dr. Saha noted.
Part of a Broader Urban Transformation
The Chief Minister also mentioned that two major infrastructure projects—the airport road development and the Howra Riverfront Project—are nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated.
Highlighting the tourism and social importance of the MBB Lake Project, Dr. Saha urged officials to ensure proper monitoring and maintenance to prevent anti-social activities within the park premises and preserve its aesthetic appeal.

Smart City Milestone and Tourism Boost
Officials said the lake’s redevelopment aims to enhance urban livability, promote eco-tourism, and offer citizens and tourists a serene space for leisure and community engagement. The redesigned site includes landscaped gardens, walking trails, seating areas, and eco-friendly lighting, creating an inviting public space for families and visitors alike.
Dignitaries present at the inaugural ceremony included Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Advocate General Shaktimoy Chakraborty, and Agartala Smart City Mission CEO & MD Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, along with AMC Commissioner D.K. Chakma.
With this landmark development, Agartala continues to emerge as one of Northeast India’s fastest-growing smart and sustainable cities, balancing progress with environmental responsibility.
