Manipur Encounter: 4 UKNA Militants Killed, Arms Recovered

“During the encounter, four armed cadres of the UKNA were neutralised, and a large quantity of sophisticated arms, ammunition, and communication equipment was recovered,” the official said.

Foreign-Made Rifles, Grenade Launcher Among Seized Weapons

Following the gun battle in Manipur Encounter, security forces launched an extensive search operation, leading to the recovery of several foreign-origin weapons and warlike stores, including:

One 7.62 mm self-loading rifle

One AK-56 assault rifle

One MA4 MK II rifle

One under-barrel grenade launcher with magazines

Three single-barrel rifles

Ammunition, bulletproof jackets, tactical vests, and Motorola communication sets

The Assam Rifles also discovered and destroyed a UKNA camp in the same area, recovering more weapons and equipment during follow-up operations.

Operation Launched to Counter Rising UKNA Atrocities

Officials said the joint security operation was initiated in response to the escalating violence and extortion activities by the UKNA in the region. The outfit had recently been accused of killing a village chief in Henglep and demanding money ranging from ₹5 to ₹50 lakh from civilians, schools, and local businesses.

The United Kuki National Army (UKNA) is a banned insurgent group operating in Manipur’s hill districts. Unlike several other Kuki and Zomi outfits, the UKNA is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement signed with the Indian government and Manipur state authorities in 2008.

> “This successful operation highlights the security forces’ unwavering commitment to protect innocent civilians and restore peace in Manipur,” the defence spokesperson added.

UKNA’s Violent Record and Factional Clashes

The UKNA has been linked to numerous acts of armed violence, extortion, and public disruption across Manipur’s hill regions. Earlier, on July 22, a fratricidal clash between UKNA and the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA) in Noney district left five CKMA militants dead.

Both groups are non-signatories to the 2008 SoO agreement. The July gunfight reportedly stemmed from leadership disputes, according to Manipur Police sources.

Peace and Security Efforts in Manipur Continue

Authorities say that operations against non-signatory militant groups will continue until peace and normalcy are fully restored in the state. Security agencies remain on high alert to counter insurgent activities and prevent renewed violence across Manipur’s volatile hill districts.
