In a startling revelation, US President Donald Trump has claimed that Pakistan is among several countries currently testing nuclear weapons, alongside Russia, China, and North Korea. Trump said the United States will also begin testing, ending more than three decades of nuclear restraint.

During an interview with CBS News, Donald Trump stated that America must resume nuclear testing to keep pace with other nations. “Russia’s testing, and China’s testing, but they don’t talk about it. We’re an open society—we talk about it. North Korea’s been testing. Pakistan’s been testing,” he said, as quoted by NDTV.

“We Have to Test Because They Test”: Donald Trump
When asked if the US would start detonating nuclear weapons again after 30 years, Trump replied that other countries conduct secret underground tests, hinting that the US must follow suit.
“They test way underground where people don’t know exactly what’s happening. You feel a little vibration. They test, and we don’t test. We have to test,” Trump said.
He added that the US possesses more nuclear weapons than any other country, emphasizing the need to ensure their effectiveness.
> “We have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 150 times. Russia has a lot, and China will have a lot. You have to see how they work,” he said.
Trump Orders “Immediate” Nuclear Tests
Last week, Donald Trump announced that the US will resume nuclear testing immediately, marking the first tests since the early 1990s. In a post on Truth Social, the former president said:
“Because of other countries’ testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately.”
The post came hours before his scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
Trump also claimed that during his first term, the US completed a “complete update and renovation” of its nuclear arsenal without conducting tests. However, he said resuming tests was now essential to maintain parity with rival nations.

Experts Question Trump’s Assertions
While Trump cited Russia, China, and Pakistan as active nuclear testers, experts note that no confirmed nuclear tests have been conducted by these countries in recent years. The last known nuclear tests occurred in 1998, when India and Pakistan conducted their respective test series, while North Korea last tested a nuclear device in 2017.
According to international monitoring bodies, Russia and China have not carried out any verifiable nuclear detonations since signing the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), though both are believed to continue subcritical experiments and simulations.
Growing Global Concerns
Trump’s remarks have sparked international concerns about a renewed nuclear arms race. Analysts warn that restarting nuclear tests could undermine decades of arms control agreements and fuel global instability at a time when tensions between Washington, Moscow, and Beijing remain high.
