Yogi Adityanath to Rename Mustafabad as Kabirdham

Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh| October 28, 2025 | SKY LINK TIMES

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced that his government will propose renaming Mustafabad village in Lakhimpur Kheri district to Kabirdham — a move he described as a step towards restoring Uttar Pradesh’s cultural and spiritual heritage linked with the saint-poet Sant Kabir.

The announcement came during the Smriti Mahotsav Mela 2025, where Adityanath said the new name would reflect the area’s true identity and historical roots.

Proposal to Restore Sant Kabir’s Legacy

The Chief Minister Yogi AdityaNath revealed that the decision was motivated by cultural restoration, not politics. “When I asked about this village, I was told it’s called Mustafabad. But when I asked how many Muslims live here, the answer was none. Then I said — it should be Kabirdham,” Adityanath told the gathering.

He added that the government would soon move an official proposal and complete the administrative procedures required for the renaming. “We will bring the proposal and take it forward. This is about restoring the honour of a place associated with Sant Kabir’s spiritual legacy,” he said.

Continuing a Pattern of Restoring Heritage Names

This proposal aligns with a series of similar initiatives by the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh. In recent years, cities such as Faizabad were restored to Ayodhya, and Allahabad was renamed Prayagraj.

Adityanath drew parallels between those renamings and the current proposal, asserting that the government’s intent is to “reclaim the cultural identity lost under previous regimes.”

“Those who ruled earlier changed Ayodhya to Faizabad and Prayagraj to Allahabad. Our government is bringing back their rightful names and now reviving Kabirdham,” he remarked.

Focus on Cultural and Religious Revitalisation

Highlighting his administration’s development priorities, Adityanath stated that the government’s resources are being directed towards reviving ancient pilgrimage and cultural centres across the state.

“Earlier, public funds were used to build boundary walls of ‘kabristan’ (graveyards). Now, this money is being used for developing centres of faith like Kashi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Vrindavan, and Kushinagar,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that such projects strengthen cultural pride and continuity. “This is about belongingness — reviving our civilisational identity and spiritual roots,” he said.

A Broader Vision for Uttar Pradesh’s Heritage

The renaming of Mustafabad to Kabirdham, if approved, will be another milestone in Yogi Adityanath’s cultural revival campaign. His government has consistently emphasised the beautification of religious sites and the promotion of tourism through heritage development.

As the proposal moves forward, Kabirdham is set to become a symbol of Uttar Pradesh’s effort to preserve its spiritual traditions and honour revered figures like Sant Kabir.
