A day-long workshop, co-jointly organised by TSOFDA, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Tripura, and APEDA, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, with FIPS, Mumbai as the knowledge partner, was held in Agartala. The workshop emphasized the need for innovative and sustainable packaging to make Tripura’s organic products more competitive in national and international markets.
The event also announced plans to create a dedicated ‘Organic Branding and Packaging Design Development Cell’ to help farmers enhance product value and increase export potential.

Focus on Expanding Tripura’s Organic Market
The workshop, organized at the State Agriculture Research Station, Arundhatinagar, focused on strengthening Tripura’s organic farming sector. The key agenda was to ensure fair prices for farmers and promote organic products such as pineapple, lemon, jackfruit, and black rice beyond the state borders.
Officials said the initiative would help transform Tripura’s organic produce into market-oriented Organic Branding, ensuring long-term sustainability and global recognition.

Representatives of various Farmer’s Producer’s Companies (FPCs) and private packaging experts also took part in the discussion.
Packaging Seen as Key to Market Success
Speakers highlighted that packaging quality is now as crucial as product quality in determining market success.
Prof. Dr. N. C. Saha noted,
“If the quality and attractiveness of organic products can be showcased through effective packaging, the demand for Tripura’s produce in international markets will grow significantly.”
Participants discussed using eco-friendly materials, sustainable storage systems, and international-standard labeling to meet global export requirements.
Government Plans for Value Chain Development
Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy revealed that the Tripura government is planning to create a special value chain for organic product exports.
“Our goal is not just to increase production but to connect farmers directly with consumers. High-quality packaging is the first step toward building that bridge,” he said.
Dr. Rajib Ghosh stressed the importance of extending shelf life for exported agricultural products, stating that longer-lasting produce would lead to higher financial returns for farmers.

Commitment to Farmer Support and Global Outreach
Rajib Debbarma, Joint Director and Mission Director of the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency, assured farmers that the agency will provide all necessary assistance to promote organic exports.
“We are organizing multiple programs throughout the year to ensure that farmers benefit financially and their products reach wider markets,” he said.
Shri Subhas Bhattacharjee added that in today’s competitive market, “packaging has become one of the strongest selling points, as consumers often judge the product’s quality by its appearance.”

The workshop concluded with a unanimous decision to set up the ‘Organic Branding and Packaging Design Development Cell’, which will help local FPOs and research institutes collaborate on branding, design, and marketing strategies.
Experts noted that Tripura’s fertile soil and favorable climate make it ideal for producing premium-quality organic fruits and grains. With modern technology and innovative packaging, the state is poised to make its mark on the global organic product map.
