Yunus a Conspirational Character:
In a sensational revelation more than a year after the ouster of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country’s former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has alleged that Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman acted as a CIA agent and engineered the coup that toppled Hasina’s government.

Calling the army chief the “main plotter”, Kamal accused the United States of orchestrating a campaign to destabilise Bangladesh, claiming Washington “does not want too many powerful heads of state in South Asia.”Kamal made the allegations in the yet-to-be-released book Inshallah Bangladesh: The Story of an Unfinished Revolution, authored by Deep Halder, Jaideep Mazumdar, and Sahidul Hasan Khokon, and published by Juggernaut Books, as reported by News18.

‘A Perfect CIA Plot’
Quoting Kamal, the book describes the 2024 political transition as “a perfect CIA plot hatched over a long period of time to overthrow Hasina.”
”We did not know the CIA had Waker in its pocket,” Kamal reportedly said. “American interests are best served with weaker governments. The immediate reason was St Martin’s Island,” he added, referring to Hasina’s long-held claim that the US covets the strategically located island in the Bay of Bengal.
Kamal also cited the US desire to limit the influence of strong regional leaders like Narendra Modi, Xi Jinping, and Sheikh Hasina, suggesting that Washington preferred a politically fragmented South Asia
Attack on Muhammad Yunus
Soon after his remarks on the alleged coup surfaced, Kamal launched a scathing criticism of interim leader Muhammad Yunus, calling him a “conspiratorial character.”
The book features both Kamal and Hasina’s perspectives, with the ousted Prime Minister accusing Yunus of supporting the US in a “regime-change operation.”
”He is a cheat who looted the country after taking charge and financed the student uprising that brought my government down,” Hasina is quoted as saying.
Hasina also blamed “imposters” and “terror apologists” for her government’s fall, vowing to “return and deliver justice to her people.”

‘Betrayal from Within’
Earlier reports by News18 quoted Kamal describing Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman—a relative of Hasina—as the “main catalyst” behind the military takeover.
In a recent interview, Kamal reiterated the charge of “betrayal” but stopped short of directly implicating the US, noting instead that Washington has historically maintained close counterterrorism ties with Dhaka.
“It was betrayal from within that triggered the collapse,” he reportedly told News18, referring to Zaman’s alleged double role during the crisis.
What’s Next for Hasina?
After months of speculation, Sheikh Hasina recently confirmed that she is currently in New Delhi, where she has been meeting political and legal advisors.
The upcoming release of Inshallah Bangladesh: The Story of an Unfinished Revolution is expected to reignite debate over the 2024 coup, its alleged foreign links, and the ongoing power struggle in Dhaka.
Observers believe the revelations could deepen Bangladesh’s political divide and raise fresh questions about foreign interference in South Asian politics.
