Agartala: Continuous monsoon downpours have triggered a flood-like situation across South Tripura, Gomati, and neighboring districts, displacing over 380 people from 116 families and prompting the state government to activate emergency response mechanisms.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Agartala Centre, South Tripura is expected to bear the brunt of the deluge, with rainfall likely to exceed 21 cm in several pockets. The red alert issued by the IMD remains in force for the next 48 hours.
🌧️ IMD Red Alert: Heavy Rainfall Predicted
A low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal combined with an active monsoon trough has intensified rainfall across the state. IMD’s regional center forecasts:
- Extremely heavy rain (>20 cm) in South Tripura
- Very heavy rainfall in Gomati, Sipahijala, and West Tripura
- Continued heavy showers over the next two days
Recent 24-hour rain totals include:
- Belonia: 27 cm
- Bagafa: 13 cm
- Sabroom: 72 mm (with forecast up to 120 mm)
🆘 CM Monitors Situation, Relief Camps Opened
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is personally monitoring the flood situation. His office issued a statement on Tuesday affirming that district authorities have been directed to ensure prompt relief and safety for affected citizens.
In South Tripura, the district administration has opened 7 relief camps, now housing over 380 people. The District Magistrate convened an emergency review meeting late Tuesday night to coordinate rescue and relief operations.

🛑 Impact on Daily Life
Several areas are already suffering from:
- Urban flooding and waterlogging in Agartala, Udaipur, Sabroom, and Kamalasagar
- Traffic disruptions across flood-hit routes
- Damage to standing crops in low-lying areas
- River swelling, particularly the Feni River, though still below danger level
Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors, avoid low-lying areas, and report any emergencies to the disaster response teams on standby.

Emergency services including NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Rescue, and local police are on high alert. Medical teams and supply units are being mobilized to the worst-hit zones.
