Officials said that this initiative aims to enhance digital learning, collaboration, and access to online resources for students and faculty. With this milestone, every general degree college in Tripura is now equipped with high-speed internet facilities.

About the Project: Bridging the Digital Divide

The WiFi connectivity project was launched in October 2024, with the first phase connecting 19 colleges to a 100 Mbps backbone network. The second phase, inaugurated this week, covers the remaining 11 colleges, each equipped with around 20 wireless access points to ensure seamless internet access across campuses.

Funded with an investment of ₹12.32 crore, the project provides reliable and high-speed connectivity for students, teachers, and administrative staff. Officials described it as a major stride in the state’s vision to integrate technology into higher education.

CM Manik Saha: “Empowering Students Through Connectivity”

Addressing the launch event, Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted that the project represents more than just technological progress—it symbolizes Tripura’s commitment to bridging the digital divide.

> “This initiative promotes digital literacy, collaboration, and innovation among students. It is our government’s vision to make education more accessible through technology,” Saha said.

He also announced that the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana (MYYY) will be expanded. Under this scheme, college students will receive ₹5,000 in financial assistance to purchase mobile phones.

> “Earlier, only final-year students were eligible. Now, first- and second-year students will also benefit. This will further strengthen digital education,” Saha added.
