In a heartwarming move to promote inclusive celebrations during the Durga Puja season, Tripura Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury, inaugurated the Sharadotsav 2025 Scheme on Wednesday. The initiative aims to distribute free festive ration packages to nearly 9.90 lakh ration card-holding families across the state.

The official launch event took place at Fair Price Shop No. 148 in the Milan Chakra area of Agartala, where the Minister personally handed over ration kits to several beneficiaries, marking the symbolic start of the statewide distribution drive.

Free Festive Packages for Every Household
Under the Sharadotsav 2025 Scheme, every ration card-holding household will receive a special festive ration package, including:
2 kilograms of flour,
1 kilogram of sugar, and
500 grams of semolina (suji) — all completely free of cost.
This initiative ensures that economically vulnerable families can take part in the spirit of Durga Puja and other seasonal festivities without financial strain.

Speaking at the launch event, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said:
> “Sharadotsav is a time of joy and togetherness. Through this initiative, we want every household—especially those who rely on ration support—to feel included in the celebrations. This is not just about food, it’s about dignity and festive spirit.”
He emphasized that the government’s focus is not only on food security but also on social inclusion during important cultural occasions.

Statewide Impact and Allocation
According to official estimates, 9.90 lakh families are expected to benefit from the scheme, covering all corners of Tripura. The state government has allocated Rs 7 crore for its implementation, ensuring smooth and timely distribution before the major festivals begin.
Officials from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs confirmed that ration distribution centers across districts have already been stocked, and local administrations are coordinating to ensure last-mile delivery.
