New Delhi, Nov 2, 2025 (Sky Link Times):
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, flagged off the first edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force (IAF) Marathon 2025 from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi this morning.

The marathon — featuring half-marathon, 10 km, and 5 km categories — drew enthusiastic participation from IAF personnel, defence forces, and civilians, symbolizing unity, fitness, and national pride.
A Run Honouring a National Hero
The event is dedicated to Param Vir Chakra (PVC) awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only IAF officer ever to receive India’s highest wartime gallantry award.
Speaking to the media, Air Chief Marshal Singh expressed gratitude to all runners for participating in this tribute to Sekhon’s unmatched courage.
“Flying Officer Sekhon remains a timeless inspiration for every Air Warrior. This marathon embodies his spirit of courage, determination, and devotion to the nation,” said the Air Chief.
The Sekhon IAF Marathon 2025 was conceptualized to promote a culture of fitness, discipline, and remembrance among citizens while highlighting the legacy of one of India’s greatest heroes.

Participation from Across India
The marathon saw representation from various IAF commands, defence units, and running communities nationwide. Both serving personnel and civilians took part, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for health and physical endurance.
With flag-offs at dawn, the energy at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was electric as participants ran through routes marked with motivational banners celebrating IAF’s heritage and national pride.
A New Tradition in the Making
Officials confirmed that the Sekhon IAF Marathon will now be an annual event, aligning with the Air Force’s mission to encourage youth fitness and commemorate national heroes.
The IAF aims to expand future editions across major Indian cities, inspiring thousands more to “Run for the Brave” — a message printed across every participant’s bib this year.
Honouring Legacy Through Action
As the first runners crossed the finish line, the spirit of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon was felt strongly — not just as a memory, but as a living inspiration for generations of air warriors and citizens alike.
