Rubio Meets PM Modi and Extends White House Invite:
Visiting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after arriving in New Delhi and extended an invitation on behalf of US President Donald Trump for the Prime Minister to visit the White House in the near future.

The high-level meeting focused on strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, regional security, trade, defence cooperation, and emerging technologies.

PM Modi Highlights Strong India-US Partnership
After the meeting, Prime Minister Modi stated that India and the United States would continue to work closely for global peace and prosperity.
“Happy to receive the US Secretary of State, Mr. Marco Rubio. We discussed sustained progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and issues related to regional and global peace and security. India and the United States will continue to work closely for the global good,” PM Modi posted on X.
Trump Extends White House Invitation
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor confirmed that Rubio personally extended President Donald Trump’s invitation for PM Modi to visit the White House.
“News! Secretary Marco Rubio extended an invite on behalf of President Donald Trump, for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House in the near future!” Gor posted on X.
He also described the discussions between the two sides as productive and said India remains a “vital partner” for the United States.
“We had a productive discussion on ways to deepen US-India cooperation across security, trade, and critical technologies — areas that strengthen both our nations and advance a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Gor said.
Rubio Begins Four-Day India Visit
Earlier in the day, Rubio arrived in Kolkata, beginning his four-day official visit to India from May 23 to May 26. He was welcomed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport by Ambassador Sergio Gor.
Accompanied by his wife Jeanette Rubio, the US Secretary of State also visited Mother House, the headquarters of Saint Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata.
Rubio became the first US Secretary of State to visit Kolkata since Hillary Clinton’s visit to the city in May 2012.

Quad Meeting and Strategic Talks in Focus
Rubio’s India visit is considered diplomatically significant as it comes ahead of the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to take place in New Delhi on May 26.
At the invitation of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi are also expected to arrive in India for the Quad discussions.
According to officials, Rubio’s itinerary covering Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi will include discussions on trade, energy security, defence cooperation, and critical technologies.
Ahead of his visit, Rubio said Washington aims to expand energy ties with India and strengthen coordination through the Quad framework, describing India as a “great ally” and “great partner” amid ongoing global supply disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
MEA Says Visit Will Strengthen Strategic Partnership
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Rubio’s visit would further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking deeper cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, supply chain resilience, energy security, and emerging technologies amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics.
