Upon his arrival at the memorial, the Prime Minister was received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. In a solemn and dignified ceremony, PM Modi laid a wreath at the memorial, marking the traditional beginning of the Republic Day observances.

Solemn Ceremony and Military Traditions

The tribute ceremony was conducted with full military honours. The Inter-Services Guards, comprising one officer and 21 inner guards — seven from each of the three armed services — observed the ceremonial traditions of ‘Salami Shastra’ followed by ‘Shok Shastra’ as a mark of respect to the fallen heroes.

Senior defence leadership present at the ceremony included Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi.

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth was also present during the wreath-laying ceremony.

PM Modi also recorded his message in the memorial’s digital notebook, paying tribute to the supreme sacrifices made by India’s soldiers.

Republic Day Message to the Nation

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt greetings to the people of India, expressing hope that the national festival would strengthen the collective resolve to build a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

In a message posted on X, he said:

“Heartiest congratulations to all countrymen on Republic Day. May this national festival, a symbol of India’s pride and glory, infuse new energy and enthusiasm into all of you. May the resolve for a Viksit Bharat become even stronger.”

In a separate post, PM Modi highlighted the deeper significance of the day, calling Republic Day a powerful symbol of India’s independence, Constitution, and democratic values.
