Theme Focus: Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability
This year’s G20 theme — “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability” — builds on outcomes from the previous summits in New Delhi (2023) and Rio de Janeiro (2024). PM Modi stated he will present India’s perspective rooted in the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (“One Earth, One Family, One Future”).
The summit features three major sessions covering:
Inclusive & Sustainable Economic Growth
Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Action
Critical Minerals, Decent Work & Artificial Intelligence
These discussions are expected to address global economic reforms, trade, debt challenges, and emerging technologies.
Bilateral Meetings on the Sidelines
During his stay in Johannesburg, PM Modi is scheduled to hold multiple bilateral meetings with heads of state and government attending the summit. These talks are expected to strengthen India’s international partnerships in trade, energy, climate action, and technology.

IBSA Leaders’ Meeting Also Scheduled
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi will also join the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Leaders’ Meeting, hosted by South Africa. The IBSA dialogue forum is an important platform for democratic developing nations to coordinate positions on global governance issues.
India’s Strong Role in G20
India’s contributions to the G20 continue to shape global discussions. In 2023, under PM Modi’s leadership, India played a key role in integrating the African Union into the G20 framework — a decision widely hailed as a “landmark moment” in the forum’s history.
The 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit will take place on November 22–23 in Johannesburg, South Africa’s economic capital and largest city. The summit is expected to produce major outcomes on sustainable development, global finance, and climate resilience.
