Tripura earned national recognition as President Droupadi Murmu conferred the MY Bharat–NSS Awards 2022–23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. Among the honorees were Shymal Dey and Anupam Das from Tripura, whose exemplary dedication to social service and community development brought pride to the state.

Tripura’s Contribution to National Service Recognised

Shymal Dey, an NSS Programme Officer from Tripura, was honoured for his outstanding leadership in guiding NSS volunteers toward impactful community initiatives. Under his mentorship, numerous youth volunteers in the state have actively worked on projects promoting education, sanitation, and environmental awareness in rural areas.

Anupam Das, a youth volunteer from Tripura, was also recognised for his remarkable service and commitment to social welfare, reflecting the true spirit of the NSS motto — “Not Me, But You” (स्वयं से पहले आप).

Their recognition showcases Tripura’s growing influence in national youth-led community programs, where NSS units have become a cornerstone of grassroots transformation.

President Murmu Honours 50 Outstanding Contributors

At the national level, 50 awards were presented — including 10 NSS Units, 10 Programme Officers, and 30 Volunteers — for their service and leadership.
Each awardee received a cash prize, a certificate, and a silver medal.

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, MoS Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Secretary (Youth Affairs) Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil, and other senior officials.

NSS: Empowering Tripura’s Youth for Community Development

The National Service Scheme (NSS), launched in 1969 during Mahatma Gandhi’s birth centenary, continues to play a vital role in youth development in Tripura. The state’s NSS units actively engage in community outreach programs such as cleanliness drives, literacy campaigns, health awareness camps, and women empowerment workshops.

Currently, Tripura has thousands of active NSS volunteers across schools, colleges, and universities who dedicate their time to social welfare and disaster response initiatives.

A Proud Moment for Tripura at MY Bharat–NSS Awards 2022–23

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Education Department officials have lauded the achievement, saying that the recognition at the national level will inspire more youth from Tripura to participate in social service and contribute to the state’s development.

This recognition by the President of India underscores Tripura’s growing commitment to nurturing socially responsible youth and building a stronger, self-reliant society.
