AI Key to Indias 30T Dollar Economy by 2047:
Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, on Friday said that artificial intelligence (AI) could play a transformative role in helping India achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation — Viksit Bharat — and building a $30 trillion economy by 2047.

Speaking at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Georgieva highlighted how AI-driven innovation and expansion could significantly boost economic growth, not only in India but globally.

AI Could Accelerate Global and Indian Growth
According to Georgieva, artificial intelligence has the potential to increase global economic growth by 0.8 percent — a pace faster than what was witnessed before the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Faster economic growth is fantastic for creating more opportunities and more jobs,” she said during her address.
She noted that India is particularly well-positioned to benefit from AI due to its youthful and innovative population, combined with strong public digital infrastructure. Initiatives such as digital public infrastructure and the Aadhaar digital ID system have lowered barriers to entrepreneurship and accelerated the adoption of new technologies.
India’s ongoing structural reforms in taxation and labour markets were also praised as steps that make the country more competitive and adaptable in an AI-driven world.
40% Jobs at Risk: A Word of Caution
While optimistic about AI’s growth potential, Georgieva cautioned that the technology poses significant risks to employment.
Citing IMF-backed studies, she said nearly 40 percent of jobs globally could be affected by artificial intelligence. In advanced economies, this number could rise to as high as 60 percent.
Entry-level and routine white-collar jobs are particularly vulnerable as advanced AI models become increasingly capable of performing cognitive and analytical tasks.
Several global technology leaders have echoed similar concerns, warning that superior AI systems could disrupt entry-level roles within the next few years.

Education and Skill Flexibility Key to Success
Georgieva stressed that governments must revamp education systems to focus on “learning how to learn” and equipping workers with adaptable skills.
“In a world shaped by AI, flexibility in how you deploy skills is essential,” she said.
She added that India’s reforms and expanding digital ecosystem position the country to create opportunities across sectors. Describing India as “dynamic and open for economic opportunities,” Georgieva underscored that digital transformation has made it a very different and more competitive economy.
As India advances toward its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, AI is emerging as both a powerful accelerator of growth and a disruptor of traditional employment structures — making policy preparedness and skill development more crucial than ever.
