The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that the glitch, which originated in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), was successfully rectified late Friday night.

AAI Expresses Regret, Ensures Safety and Reliability

In an official statement, the AAI said it “deeply regrets” the inconvenience caused to passengers and airlines and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and operational reliability.

According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, once the issue in the IP-based AMSS system was detected, an urgent review meeting was convened. Immediate directions were issued to identify and fix the root cause.

To prevent any operational halt, additional manpower was deployed to manually process flight plans, ensuring continuous and safe ATC operations.

Expert Teams On-Site to Monitor System Stability

A joint team of officials from Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) and AAI remained on-site to monitor system stability and overall performance.

The AMSS has now been restored to normal functionality. While minor delays in automated processes may persist due to backlogged data, the system is stabilising, and full normalcy is expected shortly,” said a ministry spokesperson.

Passengers Faced Delays and Extended Waiting Times

Earlier in the day, Delhi Airport posted an advisory on X (formerly Twitter), informing travelers about delays caused by the ATC technical issue.

The advisory read:
Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. Our team is working with all stakeholders, including DIAL, to resolve it at the earliest. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their airlines for updates.”

Several passengers reported extended waiting times both at terminals and inside aircraft. One traveller told  that the crew requested patience as the technical problem was being resolved.

Normalcy Restored, Monitoring Continues

With the AMSS fully operational again, Delhi Airport’s flight operations have largely returned to normal, though authorities are keeping a close watch to ensure complete stability.

AAI assured passengers that the incident did not compromise flight safety, and measures have been taken to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
