The announcement was made by Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a video conferencing event attended by representatives of the beneficiary states.

The states receiving the fresh sanction include Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

PMAY-G Progress Across India

Addressing the event, Chouhan highlighted the significant progress achieved under PMAY-G since its launch in 2016. He stated that against the overall target of 4.95 crore houses, approvals for 3.91 crore houses have already been granted, while construction of over 3.05 crore homes has been completed so far.

The minister reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to ensuring that no poor family in India is forced to live in a kutcha house.

“PMAY-G is not merely about constructing houses. It is about creating dignified homes equipped with roads, electricity, drinking water, LPG connections and toilets,” Chouhan said.

Additional Funds Released for FY 2026-27

Rohit Kansal, Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development, informed that the Centre had earlier released a mother sanction of Rs 11,121 crore for the financial year 2026-27. With the latest allocation of over Rs 10,021 crore, the government aims to significantly speed up rural housing construction across states.

He further noted that the housing target for the current financial year is nearly three times higher than the previous year and will be achieved through close coordination between the Centre and state governments.

Focus on Women Empowerment

One of the major highlights of the PMAY-G scheme has been its contribution to women empowerment. According to the minister, nearly 75 per cent of the houses sanctioned under the scheme are either registered in the name of women or jointly owned.

Chouhan said this initiative strengthens women’s dignity, financial security and social status in rural India.

States Praised for Innovative Initiatives

The Union Minister also appreciated several states for introducing innovative measures to improve implementation of the housing scheme. These initiatives include grievance redressal systems, dedicated helplines, rainwater harvesting projects, livelihood support through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and mason training programmes.

According to the minister, such efforts have helped states accelerate construction work and improve beneficiary support systems.

Challenges and Future Targets

Chouhan acknowledged that lack of land ownership remains a major challenge for some poor families eligible under the scheme. He urged state governments to identify landless beneficiaries and provide suitable land support to ensure no deserving family is left behind.

The minister also directed states to ensure timely disposal of pending grievances, faster completion of under-construction houses and efficient utilisation of sanctioned funds.

He added that some states are yet to complete approval processes linked to their 2024-25 and 2025-26 housing targets and asked them to complete the pending work by June 30, 2026.

On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, Chouhan also appealed to PMAY-G beneficiaries to plant at least one sapling under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”.
