In a significant anti-terror operation, the Indian Army launched ‘Operation Akhal’ late Friday night in the forested Akhal area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, following specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist presence.

According to official sources, a fierce gunfight broke out as security forces, including Army and local police, initiated a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in the densely forested region. The encounter continued intermittently through the night.

“One terrorist has been neutralised so far, and the operation is ongoing,” Army sources confirmed early Saturday morning. The identity and affiliation of the slain terrorist are yet to be established.
This marks the third encounter in Jammu and Kashmir this week, underscoring heightened vigilance and proactive counter-insurgency measures by security forces in the region.
