Agartala, July 14: Reaffirming the Tripura Government’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Sunday conducted a surprise inspection of GB Pant Hospital, Agartala, and directed officials to address all issues affecting patient care while expediting infrastructure development and modernization.
As the state’s premier government healthcare institution, GB Pant Hospital caters to thousands of patients from every district of Tripura each day. During the visit, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Health portfolio, interacted directly with patients and their family members to understand their concerns and assess the quality of healthcare services being provided.

Dr. Saha carried out a comprehensive review of the hospital’s infrastructure, maintenance, cleanliness, availability of doctors and allied healthcare staff, and patient support services. He instructed the Health Department to take immediate steps to resolve shortcomings and ensure that patients receive quality treatment without inconvenience.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, the Chief Minister said that GB Pant Hospital remains the backbone of Tripura’s public healthcare system and therefore requires continuous monitoring and timely upgrades.
“People from every district of the state come to GB Pant Hospital for treatment. Naturally, the patient load remains high. I inspected the infrastructure, maintenance, availability of doctors, allied staff, and other essential facilities. Wherever repairs or restoration are needed, I have instructed the Health Secretary to ensure that all issues are addressed promptly so that patients do not face unnecessary hardship,” Dr. Saha said.
He further stated that he would personally monitor the implementation of the directives issued during the inspection and revisit the hospital to review the progress.
“I will come again to inspect the hospital. We must ensure that all identified problems are resolved without delay,” he added.
Modern Infrastructure on the Cards
Highlighting the government’s long-term vision, Dr. Saha said the administration is planning to develop modern infrastructure at GB Pant Hospital, similar to the recently inaugurated Civil Hospital, with patient convenience remaining the highest priority.
“The infrastructure base of GB Pant Hospital is already strong. With proper planning, we can further modernize the hospital. Every department will be inspected, and renovation work, including the Medicine Ward, is already in progress,” he said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing modern medical infrastructure, quality healthcare, and better patient services.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, senior officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department, hospital administrators, and other departmental officers accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection.
