Using the hashtag #12YearsOfNariShakti, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s efforts over the last twelve years have focused on creating opportunities for women and enabling them to play a leading role in India’s growth story.

Women at the Centre of Development

In a series of posts on social media, PM Modi stated that women have emerged as key contributors across sectors including education, healthcare, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, sanitation, housing, sports, science and governance.

“Over the last 12 years, the NDA Government has worked to further women-led development. The efforts are rooted in dignity, opportunity and empowerment,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that these initiatives have helped create an environment where women can realize their full potential and contribute more effectively to nation-building.

Growing Presence in Science and Innovation

The Prime Minister expressed particular satisfaction over the increasing participation of women in emerging sectors such as science, space technology, innovation and drone technology.

According to PM Modi, the growing involvement of women in these fields is creating new opportunities and helping transform India’s development landscape. He also highlighted the role of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in strengthening financial independence among women across the country.

Calling women the cornerstone of nation-building, the Prime Minister said India’s mothers, sisters and daughters continue to enhance the nation’s progress through their talent, skills and dedication.

Flagship Schemes Driving Women’s Empowerment

The government highlighted several flagship initiatives aimed at improving women’s access to healthcare, education, banking and livelihood opportunities.

Among the most significant programmes is the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, launched in 2015 to provide collateral-free loans to entrepreneurs. By March 2026, loans worth more than ₹40 lakh crore had been disbursed under the scheme, with nearly ₹17 lakh crore benefiting women entrepreneurs.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has also played a major role in expanding financial inclusion. Of the more than 58 crore bank accounts opened under the programme, around 33 crore belong to women.

Other initiatives such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Womaniya, Lakhpati Didi, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao have further strengthened women’s economic and social empowerment.

Positive Impact on Social Indicators

The government noted that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign has contributed to improvements in the national sex ratio at birth, which increased from 918 in 2014-15 to 929 in 2024-25.

Meanwhile, the Lakhpati Didi programme aims to help women achieve sustainable annual incomes of at least ₹1 lakh, supporting rural livelihoods and economic self-reliance.

With continued policy support and targeted welfare programmes, women are increasingly playing a central role in shaping a self-reliant, inclusive and resilient Indian economy, the government said.
