Tripura Gets Rs 273.46 Crore Health Boost:
In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure and medical education in Tripura, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned ₹273.46 crore for the expansion and infrastructure development of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).

The sanctioned amount will support the addition of 100 MBBS seats and 83 Post Graduate (PG) seats across 19 critical and speciality disciplines from the academic year 2026-27. The development is expected to significantly strengthen medical education and healthcare services in the state.

Expressing gratitude over the approval, state leaders thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri J.P. Nadda for extending support toward the advancement of healthcare infrastructure in Tripura.
Major Increase in Medical Seats
With the latest expansion, Tripura will have a total of 550 MBBS seats and 196 Post Graduate seats, marking a record increase in medical education capacity over the last four years.
Officials stated that the expansion would not only create greater opportunities for aspiring medical students in the state but also help address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.
The increase in PG seats in critical and speciality disciplines is expected to strengthen advanced healthcare services and specialist treatment facilities within Tripura.
