Tripura Launches ECCE Training for Teachers:
The Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE), Tripura, has launched a phase-wise training programme on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) for teachers engaged in the newly opened 450 pre-primary units across the state for the academic session 2026–27.

The five-day training programme commenced on May 12 at the auditorium of Shishu Bihar Higher Secondary School in Agartala. Around 100 teachers from 94 schools of West Tripura district are participating in the first phase of the programme. Similar training sessions for teachers from other districts will be conducted after the summer vacation.

Focus on Foundational Learning
The initiative has been undertaken to strengthen foundational education through activity-based teaching methods for young learners. Six Master Trainers and six Mentor Trainers are conducting sessions on different aspects of Early Childhood Care and Education to equip teachers with modern and child-friendly teaching techniques.
The programme aims to help children adapt easily to the school environment while developing interest, discipline and good learning habits from the foundational stage.
NEP-Based Learning Approaches Highlighted
The inaugural session was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, State Pre-Primary Cell Branch Officer Abhijit Samajpati, Principal of Shishu Bihar Higher Secondary School Sujit Chakraborty and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Monika Das Dutta emphasized the importance of supporting children’s mental development by linking education with their surrounding environment.
Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP), she highlighted the significance of puppetry and creative learning methods in pre-primary education. She stated that the tradition of learning through dolls and puppets has existed in Indian education since ancient times and encouraged teachers to prepare innovative teaching-learning materials according to children’s needs.
She also urged educators to effectively implement the skills and knowledge gained during the training in real classroom situations to ensure meaningful outcomes.

Massive Expansion of Pre-Primary Education in Tripura
In his welcome address, Abhijit Samajpati encouraged teachers to adopt activity-based teaching methods so that children can comfortably adjust to school life from an early age.
Highlighting the rapid expansion of pre-primary education in the state, he informed that before 2018 only nine schools in Tripura had pre-primary units. With the addition of 450 new units this year, the total number of pre-primary units in the state has now increased to 714.
According to officials, the initiative has significantly expanded access to preschool education for children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds across Tripura.
TLM Exhibition on Final Day
Principal Sujit Chakraborty informed participants about several departmental initiatives aimed at strengthening pre-primary education in the state.
The training programme will continue till May 16. A Teaching Learning Material (TLM) exhibition showcasing innovative educational materials prepared by the trained teachers will be organised on the concluding day.
The programme is being conducted under the leadership of Director of Elementary Education Rajib Dutta.
