The incident involved flight 6E 579, which was travelling from Visakhapatnam to Delhi.

Emergency Declared as Precaution

According to officials, a full emergency was declared at the airport as a precautionary measure after an alert was received around 10:54 a.m. Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the site to ensure safety preparedness.

Despite the mid-air scare, the aircraft landed safely without any reported damage. The fire department confirmed that all passengers and crew members were unharmed.

Technical Snag Detected Before Landing

In an official statement, IndiGo said that a technical snag was identified shortly before landing.

“As a precaution and in line with standard operating procedures, the pilots requested priority landing,” the airline stated.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737, had been wet-leased from Turkey-based Corendon Airlines as part of IndiGo’s temporary operational arrangements.
Following the safe landing, the aircraft has been grounded for detailed inspection and maintenance.

Safety Protocols Worked Effectively

The airline reiterated that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority. The swift response from airport authorities and adherence to safety protocols ensured that the situation was handled efficiently without escalation.

Such precautionary emergency landings are standard in aviation when any technical irregularity is detected, experts note.

Passengers were advised to check flight status before leaving for the airport and allow extra travel time due to potential traffic disruptions.

Market Impact

Meanwhile, shares of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, closed at ₹4,102.10 on Friday, registering a decline of over 4% on the BSE.

Conclusion

The safe emergency landing of the IndiGo flight highlights the effectiveness of aviation safety protocols in India. While the technical issue caused concern, timely action by the pilots and ground authorities ensured that all passengers remained safe, preventing any major incident.
