The escalation followed a heated verbal dispute earlier in the day at the Public Works Department (PWD) office, reportedly over a contentious road construction tender. What began as an argument quickly turned into one of the most alarming contractor-related clashes the region has witnessed in recent years.

Open Firing and Knife Attacks Crowd the Marketplace due to contractor clash

By evening, the conflict had spiraled into open violence at Kailasahar Tripura. Armed men stormed the bustling Tillabazar market, firing shots and attacking rivals with sharp weapons. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as shopkeepers shuttered their stores and pedestrians fled for safety.

The attackers were reportedly led by Tera Miya, Safat Mia, Imran Ali, and Sufian Ali, all believed to be involved in ongoing turf and tender-related conflicts.

Police later recovered a vehicle allegedly abandoned by accused Imran Ali, containing multiple sharp weapons. The car was seized and taken to the Irani Police Station for further investigation.

Five Injured, Four in Critical Condition

The violence left five individuals injured:

Abdul Samim

Abdul Hannan

Zakir Hossain

Safat Mia

Hussain Ahmed

All victims were rushed to the Unakoti District Hospital, where medical officials confirmed that four of them are in critical condition. They are set to be referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for specialized treatment.

Heavy Police Deployment to Prevent Escalation

In the aftermath of the attack, authorities moved swiftly to restore order. Additional police units and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel were deployed at both the hospital and the Tillabazar area to prevent further outbreaks.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rughul A confirmed the incident and stated that while the situation has been brought under control, security forces are maintaining strict vigilance.

Residents Blame Administrative Lapses for Rising Violence

The incident has heightened tensions across Kailasahar, with locals expressing anger and fear over what they describe as unchecked political and administrative failures. Residents claim that contractor-related disputes have been brewing for months, fueled by competition over lucrative public works tenders.

Many warn that unless authorities crack down decisively on criminal activities linked to tender politics, the region could see even more severe unrest.

For now, Kailasahar remains on edge as investigations continue and residents await firmer action to restore confidence and stability.
