In a major initiative to promote agricultural mechanisation and enhance farm productivity, modern agricultural machinery was distributed among farmers of the Killa agricultural subdivision in Gomati district on Monday.

The distribution programme was organised at the Killa Agricultural Subdivision office premises and was attended by Sri Ramapada Jamatia, MLA of Bagma constituency and Minister of Tribal Welfare (excluding TRP & PTG) and Industry & Commerce (Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture) in Government of Tripura, Sri Bagan Hari Malsom, Chairman of the Block Advisory Committee (BAC), and Sri Supratim Chakma, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Gomati district. Also present were Sri Shubhendu Majumdar, Supervisor of Killa Agricultural Subdivision, prominent social worker Sri Amar Jamatia, along with other administrative officials and dignitaries.

On the occasion, 159 beneficiary farmers received various modern agricultural implements, including power tillers, mini power tillers, and spray machines. The machinery was handed over by the guests and senior agricultural officials.

Addressing the gathering, speakers said that the use of modern farm equipment would save time, reduce labour dependency, and improve efficiency in agricultural operations. Officials of the Agriculture Department noted that such initiatives not only accelerate the modernisation of the agricultural sector but also play a crucial role in enhancing farmers’ income and financial stability.

The agricultural machinery distribution was carried out under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) scheme, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, reflecting strong interest in adopting modern agricultural practices.
