Turkish Airlines Plane Catches Fire:
A Turkish Airlines aircraft arriving from Istanbul caught fire during landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Monday morning, triggering emergency evacuation procedures and briefly disrupting airport operations.

According to officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), all passengers and crew members aboard the flight were safely evacuated, and no casualties or injuries were reported.

Fire Broke Out in Rear Landing Gear
The incident occurred at around 6:35 a.m. when sparks and flames were reportedly seen emerging from the rear landing gear of the aircraft shortly after landing.
Airport emergency response teams rushed to the site immediately and managed to control the fire using fire engines before the situation escalated further.
Passengers onboard the aircraft were evacuated through emergency exits and escorted safely to the airport terminal.
All 288 People on Board Safe
Gyanendra Bhul, Information Officer at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, confirmed that the aircraft was carrying 288 people and that all were safe.
“The passengers aboard the flight were safely brought to the terminal, and baggage from the aircraft has also been unloaded,” Bhul told IANS.
Authorities also stated that hotel arrangements had been made for passengers stranded in Kathmandu, while urgent travelers were being accommodated on alternative flights to their destinations.
Flight Operations Briefly Disrupted
The incident temporarily affected regular flight operations at Tribhuvan International Airport. However, officials later confirmed that the aircraft had been moved to the airport bay and airport services had resumed normal operations.
“The airport has reopened and the situation is now normal,” Bhul said.
The aircraft remains grounded and is undergoing a technical inspection by the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) team at the airport.

Detailed Investigation Underway
Officials from the Flight Safety Department of the Civil Aviation Authority have launched a detailed investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire.
“We have started a detailed technical study of the incident,” assistant spokesperson Bhul added.
Turkish Airlines currently operates five weekly flights to Nepal, connecting the Himalayan nation with Europe, the United States, and Canada.
Reminder of 2015 Turkish Airlines Incident
This is not the first aviation incident involving Turkish Airlines at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. On March 4, 2015, a Turkish Airlines aircraft skidded off the runway during landing and veered onto a grassy shoulder after reportedly losing balance. Although the aircraft sustained heavy damage, no fatalities were reported in that incident either.
The latest episode has once again highlighted the importance of rapid airport emergency response systems and aviation safety protocols at one of South Asia’s busiest mountain airports
