As the nation celebrates the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of the 79th Independence Day, a proud moment has emerged from Tripura. Piyali Deb, a mountaineer from the state, reached the summit of Mount Elbrus—Europe’s highest peak—at 9:50 AM local time on August 7, planting the Indian national flag atop the mountain.

What makes this feat remarkable is that PIYALI completed the expedition solo, without a guide, Sherpa, or agency support. This historic accomplishment makes her the second woman from Tripura to climb Mount Elbrus.
Earlier, on January 21, 2025, she became the first woman from Tripura to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak. Mount Elbrus and Kilimanjaro together are part of the prestigious Seven Summits—the highest peaks on each continent. With two of them now conquered, Piyali has set a first in Tripura’s mountaineering history.
Coming from a middle-class background, she overcame financial challenges by creatively raising funds to pursue her dreams. Her determination continues to inspire her family, friends, and the entire state.
Piyali Deb is now on her journey to complete the Seven Summits challenge, with Tripura and the broader nation cheering her on.
