In a major push toward strengthening the healthcare infrastructure of Tripura, the state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday in New Delhi.
The agreement aims to upgrade Tripura’s medical education system and improve healthcare delivery across the state through academic collaboration, research, and clinical excellence.

Tripura’s Healthcare Gets a Major Boost
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also heads the Health and Family Welfare Department, said the partnership with AIIMS will help transform Agartala Government Medical College(AGMC) and GBP Hospital into a “medical hub” equipped with super-specialty healthcare and modern infrastructure.
“The state government aims to elevate medical colleges in Tripura to centres of excellence for advanced healthcare services meeting global standards,” said Dr. Saha after signing the MoU.
He emphasized that this collaboration would not only enhance patient care but also strengthen medical research and training facilities in the state.
AIIMS–Tripura Collaboration: A Milestone Agreement
AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivas and senior health officials from Tripura were present at the signing ceremony held at Tripura Bhawan, New Delhi.
Dr. Saha noted that AIIMS, New Delhi — known for its pioneering work in medical research, education, and patient care — will provide technical and academic guidance to Tripura’s healthcare institutions.
“This partnership is a major step toward improving healthcare quality, accessibility, and human resource capacity in Tripura,” said the Chief Minister.

Earlier AIIMS Team Visit to Tripura
Earlier in June, a four-member delegation from AIIMS led by Dr. M. Srinivas visited AGMC and GBP Hospital to assess healthcare infrastructure and suggest improvements. Their recommendations laid the groundwork for this MoU, marking a new chapter in Tripura’s medical advancement journey.
