A political storm has erupted during the ongoing Navratri festivities as BJP National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of hurting Hindu religious sentiments. The controversy stems from a song played at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata that allegedly contained references to Islamic holy sites.

Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday, Trivedi said, “While the entire nation is celebrating Navratri with devotion, certain leaders of the INDIA bloc alliance are revealing their true mindset.

The Song at the Center of the Row

Trivedi alleged that during Banerjee’s visit to a Durga Puja pandal, the song “Jaldi mujhe le chalo, mere dil mein hai Kaaba aur mere mann mein hai Madina” was played, and the Chief Minister was seen applauding along.

Describing the act as “an affront to Hindu faith,” the BJP leader asked why such a song should be performed inside a Durga Puja pandal. “There is nothing wrong if anyone’s heart has Kaaba or eyes see Madina, but why inside a Durga Puja celebration?” he said.

In his sharp critique, Trivedi connected the incident to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s earlier comment that “we have to fight against Shakti.” He argued that the INDIA bloc’s actions and statements indicate a deliberate assault on Hindu traditions.

“It appears that the INDIA bloc has begun its assault on Hindu faith right from the festival of Navratri,” Trivedi charged.

Pattern of “Appeasement Politics” Alleged

The BJP leader further drew parallels to a recent controversy in Karnataka, where the Congress government invited a Booker Prize-winning Muslim author to inaugurate the famed Mysuru Dasara festivities. Trivedi called it a “pattern of deliberate appeasement” by opposition-ruled states.

He also alleged that during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to West Bengal on Friday, his posters near a Durga Puja pandal were replaced with those of Mamata Banerjee. Additionally, he claimed that a pandal themed on “Operation Sindoor” was forcibly shut down and denied government subsidy.

BJP’s Sudhanshu Trivedi Demands Clarification

Trivedi said that West Bengal holds a unique cultural and religious identity through Durga Puja, and accused the Chief Minister of disregarding this heritage. “By encouraging such acts, Mamata Banerjee is showing contempt for Hindu traditions,” he said.

The BJP spokesperson demanded that both Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi clarify their stance on the issue and explain their parties’ “real intent.”

So far, the Trinamool Congress has not issued an official response to the allegations.
