Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), months after calling time on his illustrious international career.

Ashwin, who last represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2025 season, revealed his decision on social media platform X, calling it a “special beginning” as he now looks forward to exploring opportunities in overseas leagues.

> “Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin wrote.

The veteran spinner expressed heartfelt gratitude to the IPL, BCCI, and the franchises he represented during his 16-year career in the league.

Ashwin played nine matches in IPL 2025, taking seven wickets, though CSK had a forgettable season, finishing at the bottom of the table.

International & Domestic Achievements

The retirement from IPL follows his decision to retire from international cricket in December 2024, during the Australia tour. With 537 Test wickets, Ashwin ended as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the format, behind only Anil Kumble (619).
