Recalling the team’s 2017 meeting with the Prime Minister, Harmanpreet said,
“Sir, I still remember when we met you back in 2017. At that time, we hadn’t brought the trophy home, but today it’s an honour for us to present to you the trophy we’ve been working hard for all these years. You’ve doubled our happiness today.”
She further added that the team’s aim is to keep improving and “meet you again and again — with more trophies.”
PM Modi, in his trademark warmth, praised the women’s team for inspiring the entire nation through their determination and comeback spirit after facing trolling during the league stage.
“In India, cricket is not just a sport — it’s a way of life. You’ve brought pride to every Indian home,” he said.

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana also reflected on the emotional journey from 2017 to 2025, saying,
“When we met you in 2017, we came empty-handed, but your words stayed with us. Over the next 6-7 years, we worked hard and faced heartbreaks, but it was our destiny to win the first Women’s World Cup at home.”
She also highlighted the growing empowerment of women across fields, crediting the Prime Minister’s initiatives that inspired countless young girls to pursue excellence.
“We are seeing women on top these days — in ISRO, in sports, everywhere. It inspires us to do better and motivate other girls,” Mandhana added.
