The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme has crossed a major milestone, with more than ₹3.70 lakh crore disbursed to over 11 crore farmer families across India since its launch in 2019, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

Launched on February 24, 2019, the Central government scheme provides ₹6,000 per year to eligible landholding farmers under PM KISAN yojna in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. Payments are sent directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Over 20 Instalments Delivered Since 2019
The government has now completed 20 successful instalments, with the PM-KISAN database expanding rapidly over the past two years. The statement noted that only farmers with digitally verified land records, Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts, and completed eKYC are eligible for benefits.
A massive saturation drive under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra in November 2023 added over 1 crore new eligible farmers. Following this, the first 100 days of the new government in June 2024 saw another 25 lakh farmers added to the beneficiary list.
As a result, the number of farmers receiving the 18th instalment rose to 9.59 crore.
30 Lakh Pending Self-Registrations Cleared
To streamline access, the Centre also conducted a special drive from September 21, 2024, aimed at clearing pending self-registration cases on the PM-KISAN portal. Since the initiative started, over 30 lakh cases have been approved by States and Union Territories.
Officials highlighted that PM-KISAN is now recognized as one of the world’s largest DBT schemes, delivering funds with exceptional speed and transparency. Notably, over 25% of beneficiaries are women, reflecting the scheme’s focus on inclusivity
