In a sharp escalation of rhetoric, Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, has warned that Pakistan’s expanding military capabilities could “shatter the misconceived immunity of India’s geographical war space.” His remarks came during an address at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul, sparking renewed concern about nuclear brinkmanship in South Asia.

Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir Expanding Military Posture
Munir’s statement—delivered before graduating cadets—underscored Islamabad’s hardening stance toward New Delhi.
He cautioned that while “there is no space for war in a nuclearised environment,” even a “minor provocation” from India would invite a “decisive, beyond proportions” response from Pakistan.
“Should a fresh wave of hostilities be triggered, Pakistan would respond much beyond the expectations of the initiators,” Munir declared, asserting that the reach and lethality of Pakistan’s weapon systems would “shatter the misconceived immunity of India’s geographic vastness.”
Accusations Against India Amid Border Tensions
The Army Chief accused India of “using terrorism as a tool to destabilise Pakistan”—a claim that India has consistently denied.
He warned that all “proxies operating from Afghan soil” would be “raised to dust,” indirectly referring to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The timing of Munir’s remarks is significant: Pakistan is currently under global scrutiny for airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Khost and Paktika provinces. According to reports, these strikes have resulted in multiple civilian casualties, including Afghan cricketers Sibghatullah, Haroon, and Kabeer Agha.

Pakistan Faces Criticism for Afghan Airstrikes
While Munir accuses India of regional destabilisation, Pakistan itself faces backlash over its military actions across the Durand Line.
Observers note that the strikes reflect Islamabad’s frustration with increasing cross-border attacks by the Afghan Taliban—putting Pakistan’s security forces under intense pressure at home.
International analysts have warned that Pakistan’s aggressive posture risks widening instability in a region already plagued by volatility and humanitarian crises.
Nuclear Fears Resurface in South Asia
This is not the first time Asim Munir has made provocative remarks.
Earlier this year, days before a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, he referred to Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein.”
Security experts now warn that such rhetoric heightens fears of accidental escalation between two nuclear-armed neighbours, both of whom have fought multiple wars since independence.
As tensions rise, Munir’s words underscore the fragility of peace in South Asia—where even a single miscalculation could have “catastrophic consequences” for the region and beyond.
