New Rail Line Survey Approved in Tripura:
In a significant move to strengthen Tripura’s industrial infrastructure, the Ministry of Railways has approved a final location survey (FLS) for a proposed new railway line connecting the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex with the Jirania rail yard in West Tripura district. The project is expected to play a crucial role in boosting industrial activity, attracting investments, and creating employment opportunities in the state.

According to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the proposed rail corridor will span approximately 14 kilometres, with the cost of the survey estimated at ₹42 lakh.

Key Milestone for Tripura’s Rail Infrastructure
Confirming the development, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that the entire proposed railway alignment falls within West Tripura district. He described the approval of the final location survey as a key milestone in expanding railway infrastructure and supporting industrial growth across Tripura.
“The approval marks an important preparatory step toward strengthening rail connectivity to Tripura’s industrial zones,” Sharma said, adding that the project aligns with broader efforts to improve logistics and transportation efficiency in the Northeast.
What the Final Location Survey Will Cover
Railway officials explained that the final location survey will involve a detailed and scientific assessment of several critical parameters, including:
Terrain and soil conditions
Alignment feasibility
Bridge and culvert requirements
Engineering and technical specifications
Once completed, the survey will generate a comprehensive technical report, which will be submitted to the Ministry of Railways for evaluation and further approvals. Officials noted that this report will serve as the foundation for future decisions regarding the construction of the new railway line.

Boost for Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex
The proposed rail link is expected to significantly enhance connectivity to the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex, one of Tripura’s most important industrial and commercial hubs.
Located in West Tripura, Bodhjungnagar has been developed by the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) as a multi-sector industrial zone spread over more than 535.73 acres. The complex hosts major facilities such as:
1.Rubber Park
2.Bamboo Park
3.Food Park
4.Export Promotion Industrial Park
In addition, several private manufacturing units operate from the area, contributing to the state’s industrial output.
Economic Impact and Investment Potential
Railway connectivity to Bodhjungnagar is expected to reduce logistics costs, ensure faster movement of raw materials and finished goods, and improve supply chain efficiency. Officials believe the project will make the industrial complex more attractive to new investors, while also supporting job creation and overall economic development in Tripura.
With improved rail access, Tripura’s industries could gain better integration with national markets, further strengthening the state’s position in the Northeast’s industrial landscape.
