NABARD Inaugurates Rs21.38 Lakh Rural Haat:
In a major initiative aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods and improving market access for farmers and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) inaugurated a newly constructed Rural Haat at Malbasa under Amarpur Sub-division in Tripura’s Gomati district on Friday.

The Rural Haat was inaugurated by NABARD General Manager Smt. Tanushree Bhattacharjee in the presence of senior officials from the cooperative sector, local administration and elected representatives. The project is expected to provide a dedicated marketplace where farmers, rural artisans and SHGs can directly sell their products to consumers, thereby increasing income opportunities and promoting local entrepreneurship.

₹21.38 Lakh Project to Improve Rural Market Infrastructure
The Rural Haat has been developed at a total cost of ₹21,38,062, with NABARD contributing a grant of ₹15 lakh, while the remaining amount was arranged through other sources.
The newly developed market aims to bridge the gap between producers and consumers by providing improved infrastructure for the sale of agricultural produce, handicrafts, traditional products and other locally manufactured goods. Officials believe the initiative will reduce dependence on middlemen while helping rural producers secure better prices for their products.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including:

• Chairperson of Malbasa Gram Panchayat
• Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies (ARCS), Amarpur
• President of Malbasa LAMPS Ltd.

The gathering highlighted the collaborative efforts of NABARD, cooperative institutions and local authorities in strengthening rural infrastructure across Tripura.

Addressing the gathering, General Manager Smt. Tanushree Bhattacharjee emphasized the importance of creating sustainable market linkages for farmers and Self-Help Groups. A special note of appreciation was also extended to former District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, Gomati, Shri Khokan Dey, for his valuable guidance during the planning and implementation of the project.

The newly inaugurated Rural Haat is expected to become an important marketplace for farmers, women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups by improving direct market access and creating new livelihood opportunities. The initiative also aligns with NABARD’s broader mission of promoting inclusive rural growth, strengthening cooperative institutions and enhancing the rural economy in Tripura.
With better marketing infrastructure now available at Malbasa, the project is expected to encourage local entrepreneurship while supporting sustainable economic development across the Gomati district.
