In a historic moment strengthening bilateral ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Cyprus’s highest civilian award during his official visit to the Mediterranean nation. The honour was presented in recognition of PM Modi’s global leadership, commitment to democratic values, and efforts in enhancing India–EU cooperation.

The award ceremony took place in Nicosia, where PM Modi was received with full state honours. During the event, Cyprus’s President highlighted the growing strategic and cultural relationship between India and Cyprus, calling Modi a “true global statesman and advocate of peace.”
“This award is a symbol of the deep bond and mutual respect between India and Cyprus. We are honoured to bestow this upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the Cypriot President said.
PM Modi, in his acceptance speech, thanked the people and government of Cyprus, reiterating India’s commitment to global peace, democratic governance, and international cooperation.
“This honour belongs to the 1.4 billion Indians who believe in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the world is one family,” he said.
The visit also included key bilateral discussions on trade, technology, climate change, and diaspora engagement. Modi’s Cyprus trip comes as part of a broader outreach to strengthen India’s partnerships in Southern Europe.
