In a significant move to promote modern and high-yield farming practices, MLA Ranjit Das of Amarpur expressed keen interest in cultivating potatoes using the ARC system, an advanced technique being popularized by the State Garden and Horticulture Research Center, Nagichhara, Agartala.
A one-day workshop on potato cultivation through the ARC (Aeroponic Root Cultivation) system was held on Thursday at the Amarpur Agriculture Subdivision Office in Gomati District, with participation from around 60 local farmers.

Workshop Promotes Modern Potato Cultivation
The workshop, organized by the Amarpur Agriculture Subdivision, was aimed at spreading awareness about the benefits of the ARC system among farmers.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Amarpur MLA Ranjit Das, Amarpur Nagar Panchayat Chairman Vikas Saha, and Amarpur Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Suchitra Das.
Expert speakers included Dr. Rajiv Ghosh, Head of the State Horticulture and Horticultural Crops Research Center, Orin Majumdar, Deputy Director and ARC Nodal Officer, Abinash Das, Deputy Director, and Shamit Bhattacharya, Agriculture Superintendent, Amarpur.
ARC System Ensures Higher Yields and Better Disease Resistance
Addressing the farmers, Dr. Rajiv Ghosh explained that the ARC system produces 2–3 times higher yields compared to traditional potato farming methods. He highlighted that the disease-resistant seed varieties used under this system minimize crop damage and ensure greater productivity and profitability for farmers.
In his presentation, Orin Majumdar detailed the cultivation techniques, irrigation practices, fertilizer management, and soil preparation required for ARC-based potato cultivation. The session was interactive, with farmers enthusiastically asking questions and sharing their field experiences.
MLA Ranjit Das Commends the Initiative
At the end of the workshop, MLA Ranjit Das appreciated the efforts of the agriculture department and encouraged farmers to adopt the ARC method for improved returns.
He said, “The ARC system is the right direction for modern potato cultivation. Farmers can significantly increase their income through this method. I myself am a farmer and plan to try this cultivation system on my own land.”
The MLA also expressed hope that Amarpur will become a model region for ARC-based potato production in Tripura in the coming years.
Empowering Farmers Through Innovation
The Amarpur Agriculture Subdivision Office organized the event as part of its ongoing initiative to introduce scientifically advanced and sustainable farming methods in Tripura. With active participation from local farmers and officials, the workshop marked another step toward modernizing the state’s horticulture sector.
