The post had been lying vacant since August 2025, after Roger Binny stepped down. Rajeev Shukla was serving as interim president until the elections. With his appointment, Manhas becomes only the third former cricketer—after Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny—to take up the prestigious role.

Manhas Promises Commitment & Passion

The 45-year-old Manhas, who represented Delhi in domestic cricket before moving to Jammu and Kashmir as player and coach, expressed his gratitude:

> “It’s an absolute honour to be the President of the world’s finest cricket board, and at the same time a huge responsibility. I assure everyone that I will give my best with full dedication and passion,” said Manhas after his election.

Key Positions Retained and New Faces Elected

At the AGM, Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia were re-elected as Vice-President and Secretary, respectively.
Other appointments included:

Prabhtej Singh Bhatia replacing Rohan Gauns Desai as Joint Secretary.

Raghuram Bhat elected as Treasurer.

BCCI Secretary Saikia confirmed that all apex council members were elected unopposed, as no rival nominations were filed.

IPL Governing Council and Apex Members

The AGM also saw Jaydev Shah, President of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, elected as an Apex Council member. Meanwhile, Arun Dhumal retained his position as chairman of the IPL Governing Council.

Selection Committees Reshuffled

Several former Indian cricketers have been handed key selection roles:

R.P. Singh and Pragyan Ojha joined the men’s selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar.

Former Tamil Nadu batter S. Sharath was named chairman of the junior selection committee, with members Harvinder Sodhi, Pathik Patel, Krishna Mohan, and Ranadeb Bose.

Ex-India women’s all-rounder Amita Sharma was appointed chairperson of the women’s selection panel, succeeding Neetu David. She will be joined by Shyama Dey, Jaya Sharma, Sulakshana Naik, and Sravanthi Naidu.

What This Means for Indian Cricket

Manhas’ election signifies a continuation of the trend of ex-cricketers leading BCCI, bringing on-field experience to administrative roles. With several changes across selection panels and administrative bodies, the AGM marks the start of a new chapter for Indian cricket governance.

The cricketing fraternity will closely watch how Manhas’ leadership shapes BCCI policies, domestic cricket reforms, and India’s global cricket influence.
