Kantara Chapter 1, the much-anticipated prequel to Rishab Shetty’s 2022 blockbuster Kantara, has taken the global box office by storm. In just its first week, the film has crossed the ₹500-crore milestone, rewriting Kannada cinema history and emerging as the world’s highest-grossing movie of the week.

According to production house Hombale Films, Kantara Chapter 1 has grossed ₹509.25 crore worldwide (GBOC) within its first seven days. The studio posted on X (formerly Twitter):

Domestically, the film has earned ₹335 crore net (₹402 crore gross) in India in just eight days. It opened with a phenomenal ₹62-crore debut day, followed by strong weekday holds. Though earnings dipped by around 20% after Day 6, the film still managed a healthy ₹20.50 crore net on Day 8.
Global Box Office Dominance
Internationally, Kantara Chapter 1 has made over $8 million (₹67 crore+), including an impressive $5-million haul in North America. This brought its worldwide total to ₹475 crore gross in one week, eventually surpassing the ₹509-crore mark as of Friday.

Kantara Chapter 1 has struck gold across India’s major film markets. Both the original Kannada version and the Hindi dub have earned over ₹100 crore net each, while the Telugu version has crossed ₹60 crore.
