The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has completed a key milestone ahead of its next major mission — the rollout of its heaviest rocket, LVM3, to the launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The mission, scheduled for November 2, 2025, will deploy the CMS-03 communication satellite into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

LVM3-M5: India’s Most Powerful Launcher in Action
The Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3), also known as GSLV Mk III, is India’s most powerful and reliable rocket, capable of carrying payloads exceeding 4 tonnes. The upcoming flight, LVM3-M5, marks its fifth operational mission and a key demonstration of its versatility.
According to India Today, the fully integrated rocket was rolled out to the launch pad on Sunday, October 26, marking the final phase of launch preparations. Over the next few days, engineers will conduct pre-launch checks, fuelling operations, and final rehearsals before the formal countdown begins.

CMS-03 Satellite : Strengthening India’s Communication Backbone
The CMS-03 satellite, weighing about 4,400 kilograms, is the heaviest communication satellite ever launched from Indian soil. Designed and built by ISRO, CMS-03 will enhance multi-band communication coverage across the Indian mainland and surrounding maritime zones.
The satellite aims to provide improved connectivity, higher bandwidth, and secure communication links for civil, strategic, and maritime users. Once operational, CMS-03 is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding digital access to remote and underserved regions of India.
Proving LVM3’s Reliability After Chandrayaan-3
The LVM3 previously achieved international acclaim in July 2023, when it successfully launched Chandrayaan-3, the lunar mission that made India the first nation to land near the Moon’s south pole. Since then, the rocket has become ISRO’s go-to vehicle for national and commercial satellite launches, underscoring its reliability and adaptability.
Final Countdown Underway
With the rocket now on the launch pad, the final countdown to liftoff begins. The mission symbolizes ISRO’s continued momentum in enhancing India’s space capabilities, reinforcing its stature as a global space leader. The launch will also mark another step toward India’s self-reliant space communication infrastructure.
