Indian diplomatic missions across the world celebrated International Gita Mahotsav 2025, honouring the timeless wisdom and universal values of the Bhagavad Gita, one of India’s most revered scriptures. The annual observance falls on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha, marking the day Lord Krishna imparted the sacred teachings to Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

This year’s global celebrations served as a prelude to the 10th International Gita Mahotsav to be held in Kurukshetra, India.

Trinidad & Tobago: A Spiritual Evening of Devotion

In Port of Spain, the Indian High Commission organised a grand spiritual evening at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation Auditorium. The event saw enthusiastic participation from devotees, cultural groups, and members of the Indian diaspora.

Senior leaders from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, including Jagdeo Singh, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Senator Pundit Prakash Persad, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, shared their reflections on the Gita’s relevance in modern life.
Their presence, the High Commission posted on X, added “immense depth” to the celebration.

China: Honouring a Scholar of Indian Philosophy

In Shanghai, India’s Consul General Pratik Mathur felicitated Wang Zhicheng, a prominent scholar of Vedanta and Yoga at Zhejiang University. Wang’s Chinese translation of the Bhagavad Gita, originally published in 2015, has been reprinted 17 times, demonstrating its immense popularity and the growing resonance of Indian philosophy in China.

The latest edition, released in 2025, has attracted strong readership interest, according to the Consulate General, reflecting renewed global appreciation for Indian cultural heritage.

Mozambique: Community Activities and Cultural Performances

The Indian High Commission in Mozambique celebrated Gita Mahotsav at Anand Ashram in Salamanga, around 40 km from Maputo. The programme included yoga sessions, devotional prayers, poetry recitations, singing, quiz competitions, and concluded with a Prasadi lunch, bringing the community together in a spirit of harmony and spiritual learning.

Switzerland: Showcasing India’s Cultural Richness

In Switzerland, the Embassy of India organised a culturally rich programme featuring performances by GitaProductions. Through dance and drama, artists presented episodes from the Bhagavad Gita and showcased India’s diverse artistic heritage.

The event highlighted the universal values of duty, righteousness, and knowledge, themes that resonate beyond borders.
